Even though instant messaging is a great mode of communication, it is far from the only option. Many workers look at the benefits of instant messaging compared to that of using the telephone. Which one wins out in your world?

Here are three ways that instant messaging is better than using the telephone to communicate:

1. It can be quicker. When you send an instant message there is no delay. To go along with this, the recipient can read what you say and answer you within a matter of seconds. This is not to say that using a phone is slow. But when you IM you are definitely moving at a fast pace.

2. When you don’t want to actually talk to somebody. No matter who you are there are bound to be days when you do not want to speak with a lot of people face to face or on the phone. Fortunately, with instant messaging you can still communicate but you don’t have to get sucked into a long phone conversation along the way.

3. The other benefits. A phone is a phone. You can call others and that is about it. But with an instant messaging tool you can do much more. You can chat one-on-one, or you can invite others into a chat room for a group meeting. Options are endless with instant messaging.
